As the Greek
philosopher Epictitus wrote,
"We must not believe the many, who say that only free people ought to
be educated, but we should rather believe the philosophers who say that
only the educated are free.
Books For Baghdad
seeks to facilitate higher education in Iraq by providing books,
supplies and training while promoting
partnerships with educational institutions in the United States.
On behalf of the Books
for Baghdad
Project I would like to express my
deepest appreciation to the students, faculty, staff, and
administration
here at JSU and other universities for their generous
çiçekçi support of this
project. The last shipment of near 12,000 books and other educational
items were sent to the Baghdad universities on June 21, 2007. This will
bring the total textbook donations to over 55,000 text books. I have
received numerous e-mails from the faculty in Baghdad expressing their
gratitude and appreciation for the help they have received during this
difficult time. Personally, I am overwhelmed with the generosity and
support I have received from Jacksonville State University in
completing
this project. I would have never been able to accomplish this task
without the help of my colleagues and friends at this university and
the
other universities across the US. In addition I would like to thank the
International Relief and Development for their support in
shipping the books to Baghdad.
Books
for Baghdad will suspend its activities during this the year due
to
lack of resources. Please
check the web-page periodically to see if we are going to carry the
project further.
